Hundreds of farmers will picket the Ministries of Agriculture and Finance - March 21th, 2010
Four hundred farmers, members of Agrostar trade union federation, will picket Tuesday, 23/04/2010, the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Public Finance, institutions from which they request the payment of remaining subsidies for 2009 and the decrease by 50% of petrol price for agriculture. The claims of Agrostar members aim to reduce VAT for agricultural products to 5 % and to obtain a waiver from the European Commission to maintain the state help for 2010, as well. Such subsidies are related to petrol, irrigation, milk quality, poultry, sheep, cattle, goats and others. Farmers emphasize, in a statement that "so far, the legislation regarding new forms of financial support has not been approved by the Government and the European Commission".
Also, the farmers from Agrostar request the notification of emergency aid, to support vegetable-fruit sector, up to 15.000 euro, as recommended by the European Commission for 2010.
