European funding for sold cows - May 16th 2010
Around 34 million euros from European funds were paid last year, to around 4,200 farmers who had already sold 136,000 cows. Finance Minister, Sebastian VLADESCU, stopped these payments stop last week. According to officials of the Ministry of Agriculture subsidies were still given, "because European rules required that the grant was based on estimates of the number of cows on January 1, 2008”.
