Albalact: Dairy market to grow in 2009 - August 26, 2009

The dairy market will grow in 2009 amid the economic crisis, but some competitors, especially the small processors will disappear, Raul Ciurtin, Albalact (Alba Iulia) president said.

"The economic crisis accelerates the consolidation of the dairy market. In two years' time the market will be disputed by the front-line platoon detached by consolidation - several big players that will survive because they will have the financial strength to promote their brands. These players will be able to further benefit from the constant growth potential of the market. On the other hand, all small and medium-sized processors will vanish from the market because they will not be able to cope with the pressure generated first and foremost by the small prices and the low consumption," Albalact Alba Iulia president pointed out.

In the FMCG industry consumption maintains its upward trend in terms of quantity, but its value is lower, he said.

Albalact continues to project increases above the general growth pace of the market, as the results reported in the first quarter of this year pointed to a significant increase compared to the same period last year. In the second half of the year Albalact will function in an integrated way, based on its extended production capacities, in the new plant Albalact Oiejdea and the cheese plant Raraul Campulung Moldovenesc (eastern Romania). This summer Albalact plans to complete the investments worth some two million euros in the Raraul Campulung Moldovenesc plant.

The company has also opened the new logistic center in Bucharest, in which it invested approx. 3 million euros, while the first modernization stage of its own farm in Vaidei worth 2 million euros is about to be completed.
