Milk "suffocated" by a forgotten notification - March 9th, 2010
Farmers receive hit after hit, and this year seems bleaker and bleaker for them. After they were left without the subsidy on fuel, which covered part of their costs, now cattle farmers have remained without the subsidy for the conform milk. It is really a decision which complies with EU requirements which have triggered much controversy among all farmers in European countries. Until now the subsidy was 0.3 lei per liter of milk.
However, the Minister of Agriculture promised to the farmers that he would try to send a notification, but there was little hope, at least for the first six months of the year. "He said he would try, but could not promise anything", said Boca. On the other hand, farmers also face tough competition from neighboring countries' producers, especially Hungary, which exports cheaper conform milk to Romania and is therefore preferred by producers.
The Government adopted Ordinance No. 14 of January 2010, which stipulates the financial measures for regulating state aids offered to producers, starting 2010. The ordinance refers to aids for environmental protection, promoting the production and marketing of quality agricultural products, repair of damages caused by natural disasters or exceptional events ,animal and plant disease control, payment of insurance premiums, rescuing and restructuring firms in financial difficulties, employment, promotion of agricultural products, support for livestock sector, rural development activities
